Agios Nikolaos is a cosmopolitan coastal town in eastern Crete, renowned for its unique beaches and the spectacular, nearly bottomless Lake Voulismeni. Located just 62 km east of Heraklion (an hour's drive or KTEL public bus ride), it serves as an excellent base for exploring Mirabello Bay, the quiet traditional villages, and the ruins of the nearby islands.
